CA law and buying from out of state

Sometimes when this topic comes up the discussion gets a little wild with some people banging the table saying they know the law and blah blah blah. I would like to talk about the current situation with the CA "safety certifation" law that effects so many classic S&W revolvers, but I don't want...

Is it me or is this awful?

Went to an auction today. Now I remember why I quit going years ago. Drove for two hours to find a huge crowd (I had bidder number 3,216 and they started with 1). Of course, there was no parking available. The auction was in an industrial shed with water leaking through the roof onto and into...

    Amazing!!!!!

In 1985 I lost 23 guns in a burglary. Three were recovered by police within a year. None of the other 20 have been seen since. Today a card arrived at my mother's house addressed to me. It was from the Burbank, CA Police Department advising me that one of my stolen guns had been recovered and...

    I caved in...

After going one year under a self-imposed gun buying ban, I cracked today and bought something I'd wanted for a long time. I wanted a shiny 8 & 3/8 M27 for like 12 years but gave up and bought a blued one. I guess I can sell it now.

Can I bring something for show and tell, too?

I see quite a few people sharing photos of their guns and I was wondering if I could post a bad photo of my S&Ws? Top row from left to right are an 8 & 3/8" M27-2, a 5" nickeled M27-2, a 3.5" pre-27, a 5" Victory Model in .38 Special, a 2.5" nickeled M19-3, and an M39-2. Second row includes an...

Been almost a year. Maybe it means something.

It was just about 11 or 12 months ago that I made my last gun purchase (well, I did buy two recently but only after selling two others so the number in the safes remained the same). I really haven't missed gun buying all that much, and it's not like I don't have enough guns to keep me busy for a...

    May have asked this before...

I don't recall getting a response, so I will ask again. I am fond of the .38 Super cartridge and the Colt Gold Cup Model 1911. I know that over the years Colt has made runs of various 1911s that combine the features of the Gold Cup, like the sights and the wide trigger, in .38 Super. Does...

So I am looking at antique purses...

You wander around ebay and you never know where you may end up. Anyway, I see a listing for a wooden purse. Curious, I open it. Text reads "An old wooden box of some sort with handle added." Some sort? I instantly recognized it as a S&W presentation case for a 4" revolver. Buy it now for $6. I...

    Looking for some abuse tomorrow.

Going to gun show. Have a couple of revolvers I might try to sell/trade but past experience has been that negotiations will disclose that, according to other party, my guns are junk while his are solid gold. We will see. Also taking pair of M27s (3.5" & 5") in continuing futile search for...

    Never had one of these.

Recently bought a wooden presentation box (still surprised at how often the guns get separated from these) and it came with the cardboard shipping package. Never had one of these before. I am guessing most were tossed either by gun shops or buyers when they got home? Anyway, if someone happens...

    Presentation case for K frame?

A few months ago I bought a S&W wooden box and I was surprised to find that it was for a 4" K frame revolver. All of these I have seen in the past were for N frame guns except for a few special editions. Now, with that in mind, the lid of the box has a decal with images and text celebrating the...

ANyone familiar with PA LE agencies?

I have a S&W M58 that I bought in the 1980s as a police trade-in. The disteributor said it was an issue weapon for a law enforcement agency but they had asked the seller not to say which one. S&W says the gun was shipped to Colosimo's in Philadelphia in May of 1975. Anyone know of any police...

    It followed me home...

I broke my self-imposed embargo on gun purchases when I recently saw a Colt Offical Police with grips I wanted. I bought the gun just to get the grips. Well, it arrived today and I may have to keep it rather than resell as I planned. The darned thing is in about 98% condition. Some blue worn...

    Drawing for free gun

I hope TFL Admn doesn't mind if I plug another forum. Little used, but I drop in from time to time. Currently has about 1200 members and when 2000th registers they will have drawing for a Ruger M77 in .35 Whelan. How about popping in and registering for the board and the drawing? Go to...

    PA LEOs using M58 S&W?

I have a M58 S&W .41 Magnum that was sold as a police trade in. S&W says it was shipped to Colisimo's in Philiadelphia in March of 1975. I understand that this was a police supply outfit. Does anyone know of any law enforcement agencies in PA using the M58 in the 1970s? Thanks.

    Luger unit markings

I have a 1918 DWM P08 with SVI 1440 stamped on the front of the grip strap. Any idea on what this means? I assume it is a unit marking but I don't know which one.
