    Happy 4th all!

Interesting to reflect on the extent to which firearms in the hands of the citizenry helped to spark and then helped to further our quest for independence. The founding fathers must have held the concept as supreme to ensure that keeping arms became a right. We are fortunate that they remembered.

    .45 Colt.... .45 Long Colt.... .44-40

I am thinking about moving into reloading of BP cartridges I am thinking of 1875 Remington and 1873 Colt and perhaps a lever action rifle as well. I want to make sure not to choose a cartridge that limits me. If possible I want to use the same ammunition in all three weapons. So is .45 Colt...

I could go to the gunsmithing section for this...

...but I am much more at ease with you guys. It is time I do some silver soldering and I need some info. What alloy solder do you use? What source of heat do you use? The application is a brass frame and a steel arbor for example. I am good with soldering electronic components with an iron...

Pretty interesting show at the Hampton Convention Center

The same gentleman who brings in original Colts was there and as usual I looked without any intrest since I don't do originals. Colt Second Gen Third model Dragoon with no box or papers. Looked unturned. 550.00 ROA new in box was probably going to go for about 425.00 ASP Stainless (?) steel...

Here is what I want to learn....

I view my shooting season as beginning with the first decent day of weather in February and ending when I can no longer stand the cold in November. This also allows me to avoid the intrusion I could create during hunting season. This year I hope to develop e better strategy on two issues. One...

I know that I put myself at a disadvantage...

...because I never shoot with anyone else around. What I know about shooting BP revolvers is what I read and what I learn on my own. Because of my stubbornness I don't have access to the little tips and tricks that others find to be second nature and share willingly. This is one of those...

    Back to the range today.

Twice in one week. I must be living right! Took along the ASP Sheriff's Model in 1851 Pattern Navy caliber. Very nice shooter. All good groups but about eight inches high at 15 yards. Took the Walker for the emotion. Also took along an 1860 from Pietta. First time I had fired the ASP. I...

    FINALLY

Got out to do some shooting today. Took along the nine inch Cattleman, the ROA and a Pietta Remington that had not been fired yet. Ran myself out of round balls. Very good experience. I have some more work to do on my loading press since the jig I made for Remingtons does not fit the Cattleman...

    New acquisition

Keybear's ROA arrived this day. He took very good care of this pistol. Inner box, outer box, wrench, papers and pistol were included. The box matches the pistol serial number. The nipples come out of the cylinder very easily. Very happy. Thank KB. Tnx,

    Two more pistol cases

Just built two more cases for the upstairs hall. The size and design of the cases are the same. Layout of the pistols is different. I used an old nautical chart as a background for these two cases because the rest of the stuff in the hall has a nautical flavor. And I thought it...

I am on the soap box again....

Just visited Gunbroker.com looking for new additions. Guy has a revolver for sale and wants $40.00 to ship it. No FFL involved. I would really like to know how he is going to ship it such that it costs forty dollars! I did not ask him. I figure he knows what he is doing and does not need an...

Here is one for you historians

What approximate percentage of sheriffs or marshals in post civil war nineteenth century owned a horse? I would include those who had a horse provided for them by the organization which sanctioned their office. And I would restrict the land area to that west of the Appalacians.
