MIM parts on my newest SA 1911

At the local gun shop today I picked up a Springfield 1911-A1 Combat Blacked SS for $650. I'm very happy with my purchase so far, but I would like to rid the gun of all MIM parts. Does anybody know which parts are MIM and which aren't?

    Where were Interarms PPK's made?

Specifically the ones that are marked "Made in USA". I know the pre-Interarms pistols were made in Germany, and after Interarms they were made in Houlton, Maine by S&W. Are these *I have seen some older Interarms models marked as "Made in W. Germany" but I'm really wondering about the more...

    Dumb Glock OD Frame Question

I plan on buying a Glock 19 "C" model in the next month or so. My question: Has glock ever made the 19C with an OD frame? Not a huge deal to me, as the normal ones are nice as they are, but I like the looks of the olive drab :D

What Production gun companies DON'T use MIM parts?

It seems that more and more companies are using MIM (Metal Injection Molding) parts in their autos. I know many of the semi-custom brands like DW, Les Baer, Nighthawk, and some Wilsons do not use MIM in their firearms. Are there any non-custom production gun companies that don't use MIM in their...

Need help identifying my Olympic AR

I have an Oylmpic Arms AR-15 and I'm not sure what exact model it is. It has a 16" non-chrome lined barrel, and a standard A2 upper and flash hider. From what I see on Olympic Arms's website, it seems to have the same specs as the K3B-M4 and looks identical. On the lower, it says Mod M.F.R., so...

Colt M1991 vs. Colt MK IV

I'm trying to decide between two very similar guns to be my next 1911. The stainless Colt M1991A1 series 80 gov't and the stainless Colt MK IV series 80 gov't. Apart from the dimpled feed ramp on the 1991 and the different grips and sights (which can be changed/replaced), is there any real...

Can someone help me put a date on my S&W 586?

I just bought a nickel Smith and Wesson 586 no dash with wood grips from a gun shop for $647. I want to know how old it was and/or when it was made. I have the serial number, but I don't know how much of it I have to disclose. It's a 3 letter, 4 digit SN.

    Gun-related things that anger me!!!

I'd just like to share some of my gun related pet peeves with everyone: 1. When someone pronounces carbine like "car-byne". This really gets to me, I have no idea why. 2. When your watching a video of someone shooting, and the shooter leans back. What's with that? 3. snip[ I've (more than...

What companies DON'T use MIM parts in their pistols?

What current firearm manufacturors don't use MIM parts in their auto pistols (other than high quality 1911's such as DW, Ed Brown, etc.)? I'm wondering because I hear stories of metal injection molding parts on guns breaking on guns and it concerns me.

Hunting with a crew cab pickup

I'm thinking about buying myself a second vehicle, a pickup truck for hunting. I was wondering if anyone here has ever put a full size deer or bear in the back of a crew cab truck, considering the bed is smaller than that of a standard or extended cab model.

    FN PS90 sights?

I've been looking onto buying an FN PS90 carbine and from what I see online, you can get one with an integrated holographic sight, or you can get one with no sights, but with a weaver rail in its place. A friend of mine in work told me his brother has one with iron sights. I was wondering if you...

    First range trip with PPK

I just took my new Smith and Wesson Walther PPK .380 out to the range today to try it out. Mind you, this gun was made only 17 days ago, and I bought it new from Davidson's to get the lifetime replacement warrenty. I fired 100 rounds through it, 50 American Eagle FMJ, and 50 rounds of Speer Gold...

    Walther PPK vs. PPK/s backstrap

I'm planning on getting a Smith & Wesson made Walther PPK or PPK/s but the following is a concern. I read in Gun Tests magazine, a magazine that I trust, that the PPK has an exposed metal backstrap, and the PPK/s is covered by the plastic grip. But from pictures I've been looking at and video...

    Chome Lined AR's vs. Non-chrome

I'm debating whether to sell my Olympic Arms M.F.R. and buying a Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine. The main difference is the Bushy has a flat top upper and a chrome lined barrel. My question: Is it better or worse to have a chrome lined barrel? I hear they can make the gun more accurate, but they...
