    Which surefire for the operator?

I posted this question on the 1911 forum and didn't get an answer. So here it goes: I've been looking at the surefire web site for the models they recommend to mount on the operator. They don't seem to list the operator at all. Which one(s) can be mounted to the operator? Where can one...

    Spare mags for 1911 conversion

I've been looking at the Ciener 22 LR conversion for 1911 style pistols and noticed that they usually come with 1 magazine. Additional mags are about $25. Are there any good sources for cheaper additional mags? Will any mags designed for other firearms work?

    Shoulder holster for Snub?

I'm looking for recommendations for a shoulder holster for a snub. It can be for any model with a 3" barrel or less, preferably with speedloader holders. Any recommendations? How are Uncle Mike's?

    Scrape Marks on Brass

I have some brass with scrape marks on it and want to know if it's probably safe to reload. The scrape marks are on one side of the brass, probably from being pulled from the magazine and loaded into the chamber from a bolt action. They're not real deep, but should I trash the brass?

    Lubing cases and reloading speed

I've been reloading pistol cartridges for about a year now with a single stage and can comfortably load 60 or more per hour. However, I'm really new to rifle reloading and having some problems with the depriming/resizing step. First, I've had to slow down to a crawl. I've found that my...

Semantics...or, is that a gun in your pocket?

My wife and I were having a discussion last night about gun semantics. I say that the word "pistol" refers to a semi-automatic handgun (and bolt actions--single shot "pistols") as contrasted with "revolver" . However, her point was that "pistol" is a general title much like handgun or...

    .223 Handloads--failure to extract

Today I went out to the range to try some new handloads in .223. I had reloaded 100 rounds of 55 gr FMJ with the minimum load of 2400. Not the best powder, but it's what I had on hand. Anyway, I shot about 10 rounds through a friend's AR to verify POI and everything was OK. Then I shot...

    454 Barrel length

I'm currently looking at Taurus' 454 Raging Bull. They have barrel lengths of 5" and 61/2". As I see it, the 61/2" has an advantage because Taurus has a scope mount available for it. The gun would be used mostly for 45 LC. I would reload both calibers if possible, probably with 300 gr loads...

Once fired brass vs. New starline cases

I'm thinking about getting the dies to load 308 and have some questions about once fired brass. First, I need some brass, as I don't want to only buy ammo, shoot it, and reload those cases. I'll do that for a small quantity (say, less than 100 rounds). Midway has 100 new starline cases for...

    First rifle--which one?

For a first rifle, here's what I'm considering. Please help me decide. Cost of ammo is always a consideration, although I probably won't have time to shoot more than 200 rounds/month. Reloading is an option. Will be used for lots of target shooting. Hunting is not a consideration at this...

    Dealing with pawn shops

I have a couple of questions about dealing with pawn shops. I've visited two vastly different shops in the last week. At the first, they treated me fairly and the prices seemed reasonable on the gun accessories. I didn't get a chance to look at the prices of the firearms, but noticed that...

1000 rounds (357) for $161 new from Midway

I just got Midway's newest catalog today (July, 2002) and noticed several fairly good prices for ammo and supplies. Just want to pass the word: $161: 1000 rounds Magtech 357 ammo, 158 gr IIRC, they're PSP. I have never shot SP in 357, but I do like Magtech ammo. $12: Chip McCormick 8...

Reloading RNL vs. SWC--new data needed?

I've been reloading some 158 gr. RNL for 38 and just picked up some 158 gr SWC by the same company. My data is for plinking loads only and no where near max. Can I/Should I use the same data from the RNL for the SWC?

Making semi-auto safe at the range

What's the best way to make a semi-automatic firearm "safe" at the range? I know it's easy to open the bolt on a single shot or the cylinder on a revolver, but what about with semis? Take the mag out and rack the slide back--what do you do about the chambered round as it flies out?

Concealed carry w/o permit on private land

Recently, there have been several threads about open carry while at home. Here's a new scenario and question: You live in a shall-issue state for concealed handguns. You don't have the permit. You're on land that is privately owned (yours). Would it be legal to carry concealed on your own...

Price of older vs newer AR15s

Are older AR15s worth more money than the newer ones? I'm specifically thinking of those that were made with the A1 rear sights--do they command a higher price than those with A2 or A3 sights--assuming the rifle's in good shape but not brand new? Thanks.

Identify thin film on scope and rings

I bought a used scope and rings. I never took the scope out of the rings until today, because I just got another scope and wanted to use the new scope with the old rings. When I took the old scope out of the rings, I found a thin film of something on the scope where the rings held it. Does...

    Disassembly of revolvers

Can anyone provide instructions and/or web links for disassembling revolvers? I'm especially interested in taking off the crane and cylinders from the frame to clean them. Thanks.

Revolvers, accuracy, and handloads--check out the pics

Attached are the pics from my most recent range trip with a new load of handloads. What do you think? This one is from 10 yards, single action, 158 RNL with Unique.

    Critique my mall incident

Mods: This is on-topic, as I want to know about whether a knife was probably sufficient to carry in the situation or if I should have had a firearm. I’m in the local mall on a Saturday night with my wife about an hour before closing and she decides to shop at a kiosk. We’re in the exact...
